Quick note on mobility. Sometimes we take for granted being able to walk, other mammals are born with this ability. Us humans are a lot slower in this and most other departments. Asia has mastered sitting up long ago but last week I was able to witness the first time she got on to her hands and knees.

This I thought was the beginning of crawling. In my inexperience I figured she would be crawling by the time I got home from work that day. To my dismay and relief she wasn't. It is so exciting to see the changes but we are relishing in the fact that she is still relatively stationary.
A week later she had mastered backwards crawling and the belly spin. She can get from belly to back without issue and even get from belly back to sitting without getting stuck midway. More mobile but still manageable. Nonetheless baby proofing has begun.
Fast forward another week and yesterday we got first forward motion. For the most part she does her own version, what Kayt calls it the sniper crawl. She will get up on all fours then go to her tippy toes and hands. Tippy toe herself forward and worm onto her belly. It kind of looks like a caterpillar. Fast and sudden but in my opinion quite difficult. Very difficult to describe so here's a video.

By the end of the day we had a "proper" crawl of three careful steps.
Gross motor skills are still prominent but finer actions are starting to come out. She has recently started to point. Everything is now touched with her index finger first. Gingerly yet deliberately, great concentration going into every discovery. Speaking of discovery, it baffles me that she will put anything in her mouth yet there are some foods that she is not so fond of. Kayt continues to make all her food and apples and cinnamon as well as yams are still her favourite. She is learning to like broccoli and tomorrow she starts on cauliflower. For the most part she is a very good eater and we have taught her not to play with the food or touch the spoon. Still there are days that are better than others and no amount of teaching can prevent the sneeze with a mouthful of carrots from going everywhere! The most messy food so far was cooked blueberries! Dark blue galore! The drooling and teething continue. Two bottom teeth are fully out now. They help chomp down on watermelon, apple or carrot sticks.
Music is on often and today she seemed to be dancing for the first time. Where she learned that from I do not know but as natural as anything a head bob and a body rock for a few bars until the dog was more interesting. If we sing to her and hold her arms to make her clap she is now opening her hands and will make a clapping sound.
She has been taught by her Uncle Chris and Auntie Keli to put her hand in front of her mouth like a Native Indian on the war path and make the ah ah ah ah noise. Very cute! Mummy has taught her to give hugs. They are few and far between as she is not the most cuddly baby. She will also take a napkin or blanket and play peek-a-boo with you. We have to say it but she will work the napkin all by herself and we are rewarded each time with that infectious smile of hers...

The world of discovery for her and us continues. Each stage is more exciting as she gets so much more interactive. But we miss the "good ol' days" as well. Gone is the laying quietly and having a bottle with her little hand over her eyes. Gone is being able to sit in church while she sleeps. Gone are the days when she would play in her ExerSaucer and entertain herself.
As August approaches we hate the idea of her going to a day care of day home as we will miss some of this. Hard to believe that soon Kayt will have been on one year maternity leave and will have to face going back to work.
