big girl beds and applecados

On March 20th Asia will be 2.5 years old. To sum up the last 6 months would be quite impossible. Unfortunately I lost all the pictures from the past four months due to changing computers and a slight incompetence on my side.

I feel that I start every post with an apology of not blogging sooner. However, this time I have an excuse. For those that do not know, we are expecting our second baby on May 28th. This also happens to be the opening weekend for Golf season. In the light of this I am trying to take a leave of absence to be with Kayt and the kids for the summer. To enable this we have gone public with Artisan Raw our dog food company.  The long hours involved in opening your own business has been tiring and rewarding as the  feedback has been outstanding.  Between getting the business off the ground, trying to pass on a 5 year operation to a suitable sous chef and just being a husband and a father time has been tight.

Some highlights since her second birthday would be the amount of independence our already independent girl has achieved.  We are fully potty trained (even through the night!) and have graduated to a big girl bed.  Initially it was a very smooth transfer.  However, it didn't take long for her to realize her new found freedom and decides when it is time to wake up. Much to my dismay that is sometimes at 5:30 in the am. To counteract this we bought her a #7 clock.  We put electrical tape over the minutes and left the hour visible. We then had a lesson in numbers and explained she is not allowed to come out of bed until she sees the number 7.  So far is has helped and we were delighted when this morning she waited until the number 7, got up, went pee by herself, and got fully dressed before waking us.

Her bed is a solid wood bunk bed, (thank you Kijiji) and rather than go girly we have gone with more of a fun animal theme. Her bed spread is white with various cartoon animals on it which she picked it out from Homesense. The top bunk is right now the place where all her "aminals" sleep.  We couldn't be prouder but will admit to a small tugging in our hearts that tells us she is growing up way too fast.

On the talking side of things she has caused a mix of pride and "disappointment". On one hand I am very proud of how well she speaks but I was so looking forward to all the little baby sayings.  Alas there are only a few little sayings that I hold on to.  Her hedgehog pajamas are hohjogs and avocados are applecadoes. Spaghetti is called "sketti".  She has learned her colours and blue is her favourite by a long shot. She can count to 20 no problem but I believe that she does not think numbers should go past 20.

For Christmas we bought her a little Kitchen (thank you Winners). She loves it and will make shakes, oatmeal, cheesey pasta, or bake muffins or cookies. It is quite funny because she will put the "cookies" in the oven, walk away and 3 minutes later she will exclaim, "oh no! The cookies are burning!" grab her hot cloth and take them out. I have no idea where she got that from as I never burn anything :) She will also wash dishes and make her teddy or dollies breakfast or lunch.  Of course this requires some Parental interaction as well and I have made my fair share of bottles for her baby, or have had to eat countless bowls of imaginary oatmeal.

Kayt's sister has a new addition to her family and Asia is getting good practice at being a big sister. I did have a bit of a shock and concern when one day I was trying to get some business emails done and needed to keep her busy. I suggested that her teddy was hungry and she should go feed him. She came back to me with a blanket and asked me to put it on her shoulder.  I obliged at which point she sat down in the middle of the kitchen floor, put teddy on her lap and lifted her shirt to breast feed.  Now I am no prude, but I had no idea how to react! Utterly speechless. Since then I have been assured that not only is this normal but quite helpful when baby comes along.  I am sure this is not the last time I will be at a loss as to what to do but I will sure remember that one for a long time to come.

She continues to be the light of our lives and every day Kayt and I spend a good chunk of time laughing and talking over something she said or did.  We are anxious and excited for this new addition to join our family as we feel we are going to have a big (and possibly bossy) helping little girl on our hands.  We couldn't be more thrilled to be growing as a family and wait anxiously for the little sister or brother to join the Mahon clan.
